What Is Blepharoplasty?
A blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, can eliminate signs of aging around your eye. Your procedure may include removal of excess skin, tightening wrinkles and muscle tissue, and repositioning of fat deposits. Be in Good Overall Health
Dr. Mills will perform a physical examination prior to recommending surgery. You will need to provide a thorough medical history and any prior surgery you have undergone in the past. Current or past conditions such as glaucoma, auto-immune disorders, thyroid problems and uncontrolled diabetes can increase the chance of risks during a blepharoplasty.
Not Smoke
We never recommend plastic surgery for patients who smoke because of how tobacco interferes with recovery. Patients that do smoke must quit several weeks if not months before their procedure to reduce the chances of complications and blood clots. Additionally, you must refrain from smoking after surgery to allow your body to properly heal.
Have Realistic Expectations
While blepharoplasty can create a significantly more youthful appearance, it will not eliminate all facial wrinkles and signs of aging. We will discuss your goals from the procedure and may recommend additional treatments to achieve the results you desire. Facial-liposculpture, Botox, skin resurfacing, and facelifts, all help to enhance your appearance for more dramatic cosmetic rejuvenation.

Recovering from Eyelid Surgery
Mitigate Pain and Side Effects
Some pain, swelling, and bruising are expected, especially are the first few days after your eyelid surgery. We recommend applying ice packs to the eyes several times in the first 24 hours post-op to alleviate the swelling. Dr. Mills can prescribe medication to help reduce your level of pain and discomfort.
Avoid Strenuous Activity
It is important to refrain from anything other than light physical activity for at least one week after eyelid surgery. Do not swim, lift heavy objects, or partake in aerobic exercises. While you can walk around and perform simple tasks, make sure to get plenty of rest in the days after surgery and contact the doctor if you experience any chest pain or shortness of breath.
Follow Instructions for Eyelid Care
Dr. Mills will give you detailed instructions on how to care for your eyes after your blepharoplasty. Clean the eyelids with any prescribed drops or ointments as recommended. Do not rub your eyes or apply anything that can irritate the area. If you typically wear contacts, do not wear them for at least two weeks post-op.
See Your Results
It may take 10 to 14 days for swelling and bruising to subside after your operation. You will begin to see your results once these side effects subside. However, it may take several months for the scars from the incisions to fade. Maintain your skin with minimal sun exposure and moisturizer. For some patients, the results of a blepharoplasty can last several decades and even a lifetime.
